News Five Story on Spanish Lookout Wins CBU Award
Earlier this week, News Five announced that Great Belize Productions has dominated the Caribbean Media Awards for best regional productions in 2019 and 2020, winning six awards in five categories this time around. Channel Five’s winning entries are Best Commercial “Sargeant Peppers,” Special Mention for “Long Road to the P.S.E.,” the People’s Choice Award for “Corona the Hawksbill Turtle,” Responsible Reporting on Children’s Issues Award for “The Mysterious and Growing Problem of Obesity Among Children,” and the Health Education and Journalism Award for “The Neglected HIV Vulnerable Population.” In the Best News Item, News Five won for the report entitled “The Benefits of a Migrant Community: Spanish Lookout.” Tonight, we bring you that story from 2019 which features reporter Andrea Polanco and cameraman/editor Chris Mangar. It first aired on February eighth, 2019.

The CBU Awards was the culminating event of the fifty-second Annual General Assembly of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union, held this year under the theme: “Media Collaboration, Relevance, and Responsibilities in periods of National Emergencies.” This year’s CMA’s attracted one hundred and fifteen submissions from across the region; the submissions were screened and reduced to nine nominees for five radio categories and twenty-nine nominees for ten television categories.
