Young Kyron Needs Your Help to Return for Therapy at Shriner’s
Kyron Green is eagerly looking forward to his first day of high school, but until then and presumably beyond that date; he is restricted to a wheelchair. He’s been in one since 2019 when he was shot by someone who took aim at another individual during a gang-related feud. At the time, Kyron was attending Saint Luke’s Methodist School and the incident which has left him paralyzed incensed the entire community. It’s been two years now and the teenager needs your help for another round of therapy at Shriner’s Medical Center for Children in Philadelphia. It is his hope that being able to access the much-needed treatment will allow him to someday walk again. News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports.

Thirteen-year-old Kyron Green remains wheelchair-bound, two years after being critically injured during a shooting incident on Central American Boulevard. The primary school student was on a quick run to the grocery store when he was caught in a spray of bullets. He was never the intended target, still Kyron’s life has been changed forever. The last two years have been spent at home, largely confined to the living room. His cheerfulness, notwithstanding his physical condition, remains intact.

Despite trying her best to care for Kyron, money has been hard to come by and his mother is once again seeking public assistance.

“All the money that we receive, I have to stretch it and make sure that I do the right thing and for me, taking care of my son is the most important thing right now for me. I have to say thank God to Shriner’s, they have helped me and they have thought me a lot how to take care of my son because before, we had spent a lot of money hiring a nurse. It’s like over seven hundred dollars a week to take care of him.”
The money being sought this time is to cover the associated expenses with Kyron’s return trip to Philadelphia where he will be receiving therapy and further treatment.

“Kyron has been selected to go back to Shriner’s Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Due to COVID, it had cost a lot of strain because, while our trip is with World Pediatric Project and Shriner’s Hospital, some expense fall on our side whereby we have to find the money to pay for our luggage, to take out our visas. With this new COVID thing now, we have to find a hotel to be quarantined for seven days and those expenses fall on my side and to find food for our time over that side.”
With the help of her area representative, Marsha Belisle has been able to receive a fraction of the amount that is needed, but she’s still a long way from meeting her target.

“I place the target at five thousand. What I have received, I went to our area rep, Mr. Gilroy Usher, gave us five hundred dollars, and so we are pretty short. And that’s where I am right now, you know, so I am calling now to see if I could get some other assistance to help us with these expenses.”
Kyron is grateful for the help he has gotten so far and is optimistic that someday he’ll be back on his feet again.
