Accessing Financing to Address the Effects of Marine Litter

While it is integrated into the overall Conference of the Parties which will be held in late October in Scotland, the Geneva talks are part of the lead-up to the United National Environmental Assembly 5.2 that’s slated for Kenya in 2022. C.E.O. Doctor Kenrick Williams says that goal is for developing countries that have been adversely affected will be able to access funding for capacity building and mitigation efforts.

“We’ve been positioning that it is important for us to build capacities, that there needs to be the requisite financing, the requisite technology transfer for countries like Belize in order to be able to develop national-level framework to address plastic pollution at the national level. But it is also important for Belize to participate at the regional and international levels. Belize is a leader in the Caribbean and Central American sub-regions in terms of environmental protection and so we want to advance and really advocate for our participation in leading this process. We have to be at the table, we have to be continuously part of the discussion and not be on the sidelines in order to ensure that our interests are preserved.”
