Clinical Laboratory Association Questions Training Candidate Selection
And in a post script to this story, as the Central Laboratory prepares to begin sequencing, the Association of Clinical Laboratory Science of Belize says it is disappointed with the Ministry of Health’s selection process for the training. A release from the Association says that one of the candidate selected is, quote, “not a public officer, nor contract worker under any Ministry, but merely paid a ‘sessional’ salary.” The release went on to say that the individual holds a bachelor’s degree in, quote, “neuroscience, with no practical training in the medical laboratory setting, hired in July 2021 to assist in COVID 19 testing.” For these reasons, the Association questioned why the Ministry would select a, “non-qualified, non-technical individual,” to assume such a role. The Association went on to demand, from the Ministry, fair and transparent selection of any Public Officer for training.
