Vaccination Numbers Going Up
There is some good news in the fight against COVID-19. Vaccinations are up. To date, one hundred and twenty-three thousand four hundred and seventy-five persons are fully vaccinated. The COVID-19 vaccination report from the Ministry of Health and Wellness indicates that twenty-three thousand five hundred and fourteen children twelve to seventeen have been vaccinated. Almost half of the population – one hundred and ninety-two thousand three hundred and thirty-two persons – have received at least one dose of the vaccines. Today, Doctor Melissa Diaz-Musa told News Five that there are a number of factors attributing to the increase in vaccination numbers, despite hesitancy from some.
Dr. Melissa Diaz-Musa, Deputy Regional Health Manager, Central Health Region
“We are very pleased with what’s happening at our vaccine sites. Persons are coming out in droves to get vaccinated and I think there are many factors that’s causing this. Definitely that we have opened up all our vaccines for everyone to access, no matter what phase. The phased approach has gone out the door at this point. And because we have the amount of vaccines to give our population, we are able to freely open. Getting the Pfizer as well, we had a significant number of adults waiting for Pfizer vaccine so that has helped us. And we’ve been able to vaccine so far almost twenty-five thousand children between the ages of twelve and seventeen years old and we have only started now five weeks to give Pfizer so I think that is a tremendous job that the Ministry of Health and Wellness is doing. We are pleased with what is happening. And we continue to do a combination of things. For instance, we have vaccine sites in different areas, we also have vaccine being given at our health facilities, we do the mobiles to the remote areas for vaccine. We do the outreach as well.”
