Anti-Vaxers Having Little Impact: 163,000 Belizeans vaccinated
Minister Chebat was asked what impact– if any– he feels those against vaccinations are having on the public response. He said while they may be vocal, most Belizeans understand why they need to get vaccinated and are getting their jabs. He also spoke about break-through cases and the data being gathered on these.
Michel Chebat, Minister of Health
“I think, Isani, the numbers speak for themselves. Having a hundred and sixty three thousand people fully vaccinated is quite an accomplishment. And it shows you that while these people may be loud on social media; the fact of the matter is that the majority of the population are understanding the importance of the vaccine. And are getting vaccinated. This is something we are watching very closely. The data is being gathered, our epi unit is looking at it to try to determine what are the common factors among these people. We also share our data with PAHO and WHO, who help us to do analysis and to look at situation studies. And so all this information is being shared, all of this information is being looked at and we are hoping that very shortly we will be seeing a report. I wouldn’t want to walk away from this conversation with the feeling that the vaccine is not helping. It really is the best defense. It really is. I don’t think there is anything that can guarantee you from dying. There are so many other things, but in relation to COVID, in relation to COVID, the vaccine remains the best weapon we have. It gives you the best chances to survive this pandemic.”
