Current COVID Wave Has Not Peaked
While Belizeans may be breathing a sigh of relief that no-movement Sundays and 7 pm curfew has been lifted, the country is yet to see the results of this two week attempt to control the spread of COVID-19. We have also yet to see the peak in the current wave of cases, spurred on by the Delta variant. Minister of Health and Wellness, Michel Chebat, appeared on Channel Five’s Open Your Eyes this morning where he gave the hosts an indication of when we may see a fall in the number of cases and what the rest of October may be looking like.
Michel Chebat, Minister of Health
“We are hoping that critically by the end of the month we are going to see a significant reduction in the number of positive cases. The equations we are running through the epi unit at the Ministry of Health and Wellness when we put in all of the variables, the indication coming out from them is we should see a spike, and at the end of the month we should see a decline. Now..”

“So we haven’t peaked yet?”
Michel Chebat
“We have not peaked yet. We have not peaked yet. … I want to say this very clearly. There is no magic formula for this pandemic. This, the basic knowledge is that it is spread through human interaction. And so, what we do, how we behave, will determine what the result at the end of the day will be. People are tired of hearing where your mask, social distance, wash your hands. But they continue to be the best tools we have to combat this virus.”
