Queen’s Square gets new health center

For many of us who live on the southside of Belize City, the wait at the few government health clinics can be frustrating. But now, southside residents, especially those in the Queen’s Square Division will be happy to know a new clinic opened today. The center on Dolphin Street is housed in the building that was formerly the Youth Hostel. According to Linsford Castillo, Chairman of the Queen’s Square Upliftment Committee basic medical care will be offered initially, but there are plans to expand the services.
Linsford Castillo, Chairman, Queen’s Square Upliftment Com.
“Well with the present health centers around Belize City, the Cleopatra White, the Matron Roberts, the Port Loyola Health Centre, we the Queen’s Square Upliftment Committee saw that there was a dire need to have additional health centers available for the people. And with that in mind we saw it fit to open a health center ideally for the Queen’s Square Division.
We will start the service beginning this evening with services ranging in the area of health care, general health care and even more specific like dentistry and ophthalmology.”
Q: “Who will make up the staff here?”
Linsford Castillo
“The staff will be comprised of a couple of Cuban doctors and a few nurses within the Ministry of Health. So that is what we will start off with from right now. Down the line we plan to bring in even surgeons to do some work for the residents of Queen’s Square.”
The clinic is on the ground floor while the Ministry of Education will use the upper level and the building at the rear of the compound.
