BMDA and Anglican Church Strongly Urge for COVID Vaccinations
On Tuesday, we heard Internist, Dr. Fernando Cuellar say that members of the medical community were calling for mandatory vaccinations in Belize after several of their members, the most recent of whom is pediatrician Dr. Cecilio Eck has become infected with COVID. BMDA President, Dr. Uldine Wright told News Five today that their two hundred plus members have always been pushing for the vaccinations to be mandatory. And there’s one church that also supports that position. Anglican Bishop, Philip Wright told News Five that the wider church community will need to further discuss the matter before coming up with one position on mandatory vaccination.
Dr. Uldine Wright, President, BMDA
“We had made our position (known) to encourage the vaccination and we even had a survey that we support the implementation of requiring the vaccine passports. We are for it. We have always been lobbying for changes in legislation that would encourage more vaccinations. This was brought up by several of our members over the past few days. And we have seen that there has been an increase in the acceptance or the update of the vaccine but once we saw that there some of the mandates had been removed, we had seen a decrease in the amount of persons getting vaccination so that is something again, yes, we will look into, we will discuss as a body and we’ll make a position on it.”
Philip Wright, Bishop, Anglican Church
“I will say for the Anglicans, consistent all across the region, we have been pushing for governments to seriously consider the mandate, mindful of course of those who, or medical reasons and so on, would not be able to.”
