BMDA Looking at Blot Clot Issues in COVID Survivors
We’ve been hearing about blood clot issues that COVID has had on survivors from other regions, and now, there are reports that Belizeans who have been infected with the virus are also having blood clot issues months later. President of the Belize Medical and Dental Association, Dr. Uldine Wright told News Five today that while the epidemiological figures are still being collected, there is a significant number of COVID survivors who never even had a sniffle who are now gripped with this serious health problem.

“I can speak from experience that we have patients who come in and they’re saying that they think they’re stressed out because of work and I would tell them that you have to get a COVID test. They say “I had COVID last December; I didn’t have anything.” That rings a bell and tells me I have to go and check for blood clots and I’ve gotten quite a few in which there were blood clots, pulmonary embolism, post-COVID in asymptomatic patients.”
It is expected that coming out of this week’s Medical Congress, there will be useful information on how doctors can go about treating patients who develop these other health issues as a result of contracting the COVO-19 virus. Currently, COVID patients who have moderate to serious symptoms are given or prescribed blood thinners or aspirin regimen to be taken daily.
