Toxic fumes send shrimp farm workers to KHMH

Story Picture
Employees of Nova Industries shrimp farm in Ladyville were rushed to the KHMH after an ammonia leak this morning. Reports to News Five are that several employees collapsed and others complained of feeling faint after exposure to the gas. All work was suspended and the premises were evacuated. Personnel at the KHMH treated those affected with oxygen and others had to be given intravenous fluids. Jim Hyde, General Manager of Nova Industries confirmed that employees were taken to the hospital and said the company would be issuing a statement this afternoon, but at press time, he was still in a meeting. Employees from the factory declined to speak with us. It is not known how the gas leak occurred.
