MOH Clarifies COVID-related Deaths
On Monday, ten COVID-related deaths were recorded and share during the daily report issued by the Ministry of Health and Wellness. The alarming number of deaths reported in one day sent shockwaves across the country. Today, the ministry issued a release clarifying the manner in which data for COVID-19 deaths are compiled and reported in the infographic. It says that the ministry reports a COVID-related when the medical practitioner issues a death certificate. A copy of that certificate is submitted to the Epidemiology Unit for reporting. This procedure may cause a delay in confirming a COVID-19 death and when it is inputted into the Belize Health Information System. The release ends by explaining that the ten deaths were recorded between November second and November fifteenth, with the eighth and tenth recording two deaths each.
