IDB/CDB to fund hospital rehabilitation
Belizeans have long complained of inadequate health care, but there may finally be some major improvements in the pipeline. The Minister of Economic Development Ralph Fonseca and Health Minister Servulo Baeza had final discussions today with representatives from the Caribbean Development Bank and the Inter American Bank about funding for the Health Reform Program. If all goes well Belize will received the finances necessary to carry out a thirty-million dollar project to upgrade hospitals, refurbish health center and provide universal health insurance. The banks will make the final decision in October but until then studies continue with local experts and international consultants. The Government of Belize will contribute two point nine million dollars towards the program.
