Dr. Eck on his recovery from COVID 19
And finally tonight, we have some good news to report about the popular pediatrician, Doctor Cecilio Eck. He has had a rough bout with COVID, and experienced complications soon after he contracted the virus. He ended up on a ventilator not once but twice, much to the dismay of his fellow medical colleagues. Thereafter went through a roller coaster post-COVID episode that required surgery and blood transfusions. But Doctor Eck survived it all and today, he shared with News Five the ordeal that has left him still immobile and confined to a wheelchair.
Dr. Cecilio Eck, Recovering from COVID patient
“After a week of being at home the symptoms started to get worse. And I had made a pact with my wife that if things got worse, as all doctors do, I would not hold it in, but I would divulge to her things are getting bad. So in the dead of the night, I started to get severely short of breath and so I called and arranged for the team to get me at KHMH. I was transferred there, spent a couple days there and then transferred to BHPL. The last I remember of it is getting off at KHMH. I don’t remember anything until waking up after all the intubation and after all the surgery. The problem with this is that during that time that you’re not moving, the muscles in your body atrophy so presently I’m sitting in a wheelchair, so I can’t stand and I can’t walk but I do have movement in the lower limbs and my physiotherapist, Ms Trejo comes in every day to check on me and to give me my exercises. She’s my torturer every day, but slowly it will come to pass, I hope.”
Doctor Eck publicly thanks Doctor Fernando Cuellar and the team of doctors who discussed his condition before deciding what the best options were. He also thanks his wife and all the people who prayed for him, donated blood, or contributed to his family during his bout with COVID.
