CEO Says KHMH Integral Part of Ministry of Health

For her part, the K.H.M.H.’s Chief Executive Officer, Chandra Nisbet Cansino says the hospital is a key component of the Ministry of Health and any funds that come to them, are for the people who use this public facility.

“In a lot of cases, for instance the first wave wasn’t a quarter as bad as this one has been. And perhaps we felt, like many countries, oh, this isn’t too bad. That may have affected getting ready for something like this. But yes, I do believe that our situation, our position as the tertiary and only referral hospital in the country, is an integral part of the Ministry of Health and by extension the government of Belize. And that is an important partnership that we both have a responsibility to deliver the best possible services to the people of Belize and I think this is where we are trying to continue that partnership and ensure that we get what we need primarily. People say it is for the hospital, it is not necessarily for the hospital, it is for the people that go to the hospital. They are in the center of everything that we do.”
