Heightened Surveillance at Border Entry Points

Among the members of the COVID-19 task force that advises cabinet on the course of action to be taken during the pandemic is Doctor Melissa Diaz-Musa. She says that even though the reopening of the border is not recommended at this time, there is heightened surveillance at all land borders and at the P.G.I.A.

“We definitely do discuss a lot of the measures, we discuss the outbreaks, the waves, the numbers we are seeing and ways for us to ensure that the positivity rate is improved as quickly as possible. At the borders, we have had – we’ve done numerous visits at the borders, we have our public health inspectors there and there is constant surveillance at our borders, including at the P.G.I.A.  What we do is whenever persons are tested and persons are picked up positive at the land borders and P.G.I.A., the public health inspector would immediately contact that person and we would then ensure that these persons are in isolation, we do a quick history and ensure that if there is any medical management; that is done as well. So we plan to continue to have heightened surveillance at all our borders.”
