PM to Honduran Presidential Inauguration

Prime Minister John Briceño left the country today for Honduras to attend the inauguration of Xiomara Castro, the Central American nation’s first woman president. Briceño also spoke this morning about upcoming regional meeting including a CARICOM Summit in March, and efforts to strengthen relationships with both Central America and the Caribbean.

John Briceño

“Today, the Foreign Minister, and the CEO from Foreign Affairs, along with myself will go to Honduras. Tomorrow there is going to be the inauguration of the new President Xiomara Castro. So we are going there to show our support as a member of SICA. Also, I have assumed the Chairmanship of CARICOM and, we will have a summit of CARICOM on the first and second of March. And then on the third, SICA will join us, so we are going to have a joint meeting with the Presidents of Central America and the Prime Ministers of CARICOM on that day, again finding ways of how we can strengthen relationships. If we in Belize can open markets in Central America, that will create immense opportunities for us. And likewise, SICA wants to see how they can create opportunities in CARICOM and they believe that Belize being a member of SICA would be right person. It is a lot of work, tedious, long work. But, you need to have a vision as to where we are going and that is what we are doing here in Belize.”
