GOB to Seek Additional Funds For MOHW
The Government of Belize is preparing to table a reported sixteen million dollar supplementary budget in the House of Representatives for the Ministry of Health. It will not be the first time the Briceño administration is going to the House to seek approval for further spending for health. In fact, it will be the third time in 2021/2020 fiscal year. Newly appointed Minister of Health, Kevin Bernard, has already alluded to the need for further financing as the COVID19 pandemic rages on. Here is how the Prime Minister responded when asked if his former Minister of Health left the coffers empty.
Prime Minister John Briceño
“It is a matter of what was necessary to do at that time, when you need more testing kits, when you need more medicines to fight the COVID, when you in your budget you are not approved the amount of medicines, the amount of monies to buy all the medicines, then you have to do those things. So Chebat did not leave the Ministry broke.”
