C.D.B. Delegation Wraps up Visit to Belize
The delegation from the Caribbean Development Bank has concluded its visit to Belize. The group headed by President, Dr. Gene Leon, met with the Prime Minister and Cabinet, the Central Bank of Belize, the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Citrus Growers Association. Sessions were also held with agencies executing projects having C.D.B. support and with the Caribbean Community Climate Change Center. The group stopped in at The Hub in Belize City, a community resource center located in the Lake Independence Area, and made site visits to the Coastal Road Highway Upgrading Project and the Belmopan Polyclinic. Four projects were also launched to enhance trade. The first will study the amount of time it takes for goods to be processed through the Customs and Excise Department, and the feasibility of establishing an electronic single window for trade in Belize. The second project involves improving the processes undertaken by the Belize Bureau of Standards. The Belize Agricultural Health Authority will benefit from the third project which will develop a risk-based sanitary and phytosanitary import and export control system; and, the final project is a C.D.B. grant to the Toledo Cacao Growers Association.
