Minister of Health Says Encourage Each Other to Get Vaccinated
And, the future for Belizeans also includes more freedom for the vaccinated. More and more the vaccinated will be able to enjoy freedoms that the unvaccinated will be barred from, such as sports events, and even traveling across the land borders, as is already the case. As Minister Bernard puts it, the vaccinated may return to some level of normalcy, but it is not right for the unvaccinated to share the same privileges.
Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health & Wellness.
“Let us look at the border reopening. There was all this hype that if the border re-opened that Belizeans will flock to the vaccine sites to get vaccinated. We haven’t seen that. We haven’t seen the rush for people to get vaccinated over the past few weeks since the borders reopened. The numbers has still been slow uptake. On a daily basis we are seeing just small numbers of persons country wide being vaccinated. So, we are encouraging people to still let us take this advantage and get vaccinated. Remember, there still remain certain regulations. To cross the border you have to be vaccinated. Many of these things have to remain because it is unfair for you and me who have gone through the steps to get vaccinated and boosted and for those who just willfully don’t want to get vaccinated to enjoy the same freedom as you and I. So, I don’t see that right, personally. But, I think we must be responsible in getting the message across still, trying to encourage each other to get vaccinated, but at the same time, we need to see where those who have been vaccinated can return to some level of normalcy in this country.”
