Cleopatra White Polyclinic Now a ‘Smart’ Health Facility

Kevin Bernard

Today, the Cleopatra White Poly Clinic in Belize City got a new designation as a “Smart” Healthcare facility. The changes are the result of a project supported by the U.K. Government and PAHO. The three million U.S. dollars invested was for improvements to infrastructure and equipment, and in building the capacity of those employed at these facilities. Following a brief ceremony this morning, there was a walk-through of the facility.

“All the facilities have already been retrofitted. I know the Palm View was done late last year and then last week, we did the official ribbon-cutting for the San Ignacio Community Hospital. Today we are at the Cleopatra White and then we move down thereafter to the Independence Polyclinic and then Isabella Palma Polyclinic. Moving these facilities into a smart and green facility makes much more significance. We need to ensure one there is cost-saving measures. Any facility, any hospital that you run it is very costly when it comes to health. So being able to utilize solar, being able to ensure that they have their own water catchment and be able to have our facility upgraded to a standard that our people can feel that they are getting the best service ever. This funding comes from through the support of the U.K., huge amount of money, millions of dollars invested in these five facilities and one that needs to be put at good use. Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance – we cannot continue to have investment done in our health facilities and we forget the main issue that has to be done after, which is constant maintenance. We have to ensure that that is a part of the bible in health.”
