Creating Competition Among NHI Providers
The objective, in part, is for there to be a level of competition among service providers. PM Briceño explains further.

“What we are trying to do is trying to create some form of competition in providing the services, of course with certain parameters of what kind of services that we expect. And by doing that then you create efficiencies, not only in the private sector but the NGO community and even our public hospitals because our public hospitals also have to compete, you know, to be able to get the funding to provide the services. And at the same time, it eases that pressure in our regional hospitals where you provide what you call secondary services, medical services. At the clinics, it’s mostly primary, where when you are sick and you got a headache, you have a cough, you know, they look after you and then if you need more service or more sophisticated service then they would send you to the secondary hospitals where you can get operations…”
