Central American Leaders and Caribbean Heads to Meet in Belize Next Week
Following the March first and second meetings in San Pedro next week, CARICOM leaders will engage Central America’s leaders at a CARICOM/S.I.C.A. Heads of Government meeting. This is to be held on Thursday March third at the same location. It is the hope of the CARICOM Secretary General that this meeting will lead to enhanced cooperation between both regions.
Dr. Carla Barnett, Secretary General, CARICOM
“There is going to be a meeting immediately following the CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting, there is going to be a CARICOM S.I.C.A. meeting which is a meeting of the two large integration groups in Central America and the Caribbean. The reality is that in CARICOM countries and the Central American countries together, probably, circle the Caribbean Sea. So, there is a commonality there that we have to recognize and see how we can work together better to get mutual advantages out of that. So, there is a long conversation that has taken place about increasing cooperation between Central America and the Caribbean. The head meetings take place in Belize. Belize is uniquely placed, because Belize is a member of S.I.C.A. and CARICOM. So, who knows, maybe we get enhanced cooperation coming out of the meeting as well.”
