The Curfew is Removed

Much to the delight of many, effective tomorrow March first, the curfew that has been in effect in various for the better part of two years will be lifted! In a late evening press statement, Prime Minister John Briceño said that the curfew will be no more.

“The Cabinet has decided that the time has come to restore personal and economic freedoms while encouraging everyone to act responsibly. Effective first March, the curfew will be lifted. The Minister of Health will provide more details of the process by which we will lift all measures during the month of March, as we move towards normalcy on first April, 2022. We continue to urge Belizeans to get vaccinated and for those who have not yet been boosted, we urge you to do so.”

Further to the lifting of the curfew as of March first, there will also be some relaxation to the mask mandate—though maybe not as much as people had hoped for.  The new Statutory Instrument recently released states that also effective March first; the mask mandate is lifted for outdoor open spaces. All other mask mandates remain in place.The Minister of Health, Kevin Bernard is expected to address questions from the media on COVID-related restrictions.
