Prime Minister Briceño: Global Challenges Require Global Response

During the ceremony in Taiwan, Prime Minister John Briceño said that people are yearning for a new humanitarian spirit that promotes peace. This, he says, is a concept that Belize supports.

Prime Minister John Briceño

“Belize and Taiwan are friends and partners. We enjoy a cordial bilateral relationship, which has grown stronger during the almost thirty-three years. Belize has benefitted greatly from our diplomatic partnership with Taiwan that is based on the sheer values of democracy, freedom, human rights and the rule of law. Both Taiwan and Belize firmly believe that we must build on our multi-lateral system and reject the rise of ignominy. Global challenges require global responses, global cooperation and genuine partnership. Citizens everywhere call for a renewed respect for the right of all peoples to self determination, non-interference in the internal affairs of countries, the territorial integrity of all nations and the peaceful settlement of disputes. Now more than ever, Belize Taiwan and friendly countries must ensure that the values we cherish are respected. Our pledge to the people of Taiwan is to work diligently for a future that is secure, prosperous and peaceful.”

While in Taiwan, the P.M. and his wife, Rossana Briceño, have been hosted at a state banquet, during which the two leaders spoke of topics of mutual concern. The Prime Minister is also meeting with senior Taiwanese officials and potential investors. Belize and Taiwan formed diplomatic ties in 1989.
