AIDS hotline to be launched June
The recently formed Alliance Against AIDS is offering support services to those infected and affected by HIV and AIDS in Belize. The A.A.A. is conducting a six-week training course for HIV hotline operators. The hotline will be launched June first to coincide with the official inauguration of the center. Facilitators for the hotline training are Alex Vega and Dr. Joanna Griffith. The Alliance Against AIDS is headed by a seven member board of directors which represents a cross section of society and includes members of the religious community, tertiary-level institutions, the medical profession, the business community and NGOs. The Alliance’s goals are to empower people to better respond to the AIDS epidemic through awareness and education and to develop resource centers with relevant and updated information on HIV and AIDS. Director of the Alliance is Rodel Beltran Perrera. Their offices are located on Meighan Avenue in Belize City.
