The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Depart Belize
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are in Jamaica tonight. They departed Belize just before midday, concluding their three-day visit. The royal couple continues its Caribbean tour in Jamaica, on the occasion of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebration. News Five’s Paul Lopez was at the Phillip Goldson International Airport to witness the departure. Here is that report.
Their Royal Highnesses, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge departed Belize this morning after a three-day stay in the Jewel. The Royal Air Force V.I.P. Airbus has been parked at the Phillip Goldson International Airport since the arrival on Saturday. Today, the aircraft was prepared for departure, long before Prince William and Kate Middleton arrived at the P.G.I.A. The Belize Defense Force Marching Band positioned itself, followed by a detail of security officers. C.E.O. in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amalia Mai, and the Governor General of Belize, Froyla Tzalam, were there to bid farewell to the Duke and Duchess. Prince Williams and his wife Katherine travelled from San Ignacio this morning, a fifteen-minute helicopter ride to the international airport. Before boarding the Royal Air Force V.I.P. Bus, the Duke and Duchess expressed their gratitude to the British High Commissioner to Belize, the C.E.O. in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Governor General of Belize, among others. William and Katherine left for the second leg of this Caribbean tour on the occasion of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebration. From Jamaica, the royal couple will be spending some time in the Bahamas, before returning to Cambridge. Reporting for News Five, I am Paul Lopez.
