Still No “ALL CLEAR” for San Vicente Water System
Anybody exhibiting symptoms such as vomiting, shortness of breath, headache, diarrhea or cramps are asked to access the nearest medical facility for treatment. The principal public health inspector says that public health officers are still out in the village monitoring the situation. At this time, the “All Clear” for residents to resume use of the water has not been given.
On the Phone: John Bodden, Principal Public Health Inspector, MOHW
“The ‘All Clear’ at least from the Ministry of Health has not been issued. We have done some remedial work in terms of the system. We did a double wash which is typical and it was super chlorinated, but there is still some concerns there in terms of the piping work or the network that they have there. It might still be in the pipeline and so we need to ensure fully that that is done and it is safe for people to use. So until we can ascertain that it is at a satisfactory level the system is still non-functional and it will not be cleared until we are satisfied that it is safe for the system to go into operation.”
Bodden recommends that a perimeter fence be erected around the system to prevent any recurrence of an incident like this.
