COVID-19 Cases Continue to Rise

New cases of COVID-19 continue to increase daily, with the positivity rate now above ten percent. Today, the Ministry of Health and Wellness announced a total of one hundred and twenty-two new cases, bringing the total number of active cases to one thousand, one hundred and fifty-four. Fortunately, ninety-six recoveries were recorded with no new deaths. As the ministry recently announced, the Omicron BA 2 sub-variant is presently the dominant strain of COVID-19 in Belize. While the strain is reported to be way less lethal than its predecessors, Omicron BA 2 affects the upper respiratory system leading to severe sore throat, runny nose, coughing, body aches, and fatigue.
