“Your baby and AIDS” seminar held by PAHO

The Pan-American Health Organization is holding a seminar entitled, “Your Baby and AIDS” tonight. The objective is to enlighten young women who arepregnant or considering getting pregnant about the many risks of transmitting HIV to their child.

“The idea of this seminar is that we came as consultants for PAHO office in Belize to see the feasible way to curtail or not to eliminate the transmission from mother to child. So the idea of the seminar tonight is to get some information of what this problem is about? What have we been doing these days? What is our impression of what an impact with a program like this in Belize? And try to prevent transmission of mother to child.”

“The reason for the increased vulnerability for women to acquire HIV infection and this increase vulnerability to biological factors and social factors. On one hand the efficiency of transmission is increased around women greater than men.”

The seminar starts at seven tonight at the hotel formerly known as the Fiesta and will include a discussion followed by a question and answer segment.
