Prime Minister Briceno Meets with Ukrainian President
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, tweeted that he had a first productive meeting with Prime Minister John Briceño. In his tweet the Ukrainian president said, the first but productive contact with Prime Minister of Belize John Briceño. Agreed on the support for Ukraine in the U.N. and at regional platforms. I count on Belize joining the sanctions, refusing to register new Russian vessels and deregistering old ones. Here is what P.M. Briceño told reporters about his meeting with President Zelenskyy.
Prime Minister John Briceño
“The President requested for that meeting and Belize feels very strongly that a citizen should have the right to self determination. We believe that the invasion into Ukraine by Russia is illegal. They were asking for our support. We believe that we could give whatever support we can afford, of course diplomatically. I have also asked to look at our ship register. We have agreed that we will not register any more Russian ships and that if there is any way we can assist with some of the funding, or illegal money that some of the Russian oligarchs have been moving, and if there is any going through our system, we would put a stop to it. So far, as we know no such thing has happened.”
