Prime Minister John Briceño
“I am now in Portugal bone, because of the Conference of the Oceans. Many of the countries they want to hear from us for the success that we have on the issue of the Blue Bond. And, while managed people think that we managed to get some sort of debt forgiveness and come up with a new Blue Bond for Marine Conservation, it is important for them to understand that as a country we need to make some tough decisions. We had to get our public officers to cooperate with us with some salary cuts. Ministers also got salary cuts. We did increment freezes for the next three years. So, people want to know about what we are doing. We are also having other meetings. For example, this morning we had a meeting with the Nature Conservancy and also with the Bahamas. They also want to see the work we are doing. Tomorrow we are going to have another meeting with SIDS DOCK and they are again, we are looking for the possibility exist that we are going to get some funding to do an energy generation project in San Pedro and Caye Caulker. It is only by coming to these places that we can get these things done. Then we can make contacts with other Prime Ministers. For instance, tomorrow, the foreign minister of Portugal is asking for a meeting with me, which I have already agreed to. I am going to be hosting a meeting slash cocktail with the Prince of Monaco tomorrow evening. So, there are a number of things that we have been doing. If you want to total what we have done with a number, so far we will be getting about close to fifty million dollars in funding could potentially come from this trip, from the different countries and programs that we belong to.”
