B.D.F. Officer in Need of Blood Following R.T.A.

And, those B.D.F. officers who survived last week’s tragic road traffic accident are in recovery. Eight of the ten surviving officers have been released from the hospital. Two, however, remain hospitalized at the K.H.M.H. One of those officers is currently in need of blood donations. Jermaine Burns, the Chief of Staff at the Belize Defense Force, gave us the update.

“Thus far, six of the eight have been released to the care of the B.D.F. and some to their families with more minor injuries. There are two soldiers, whose names I don’t have on hand, one with the femur that I spoke about, that had damaged his femur and the other with some cuts and abrasions which have been sorted out already. He had taken surgery. The one with the femur is the soldier that requires negative blood. Any negative class blood would work. We are appealing to the public for assistance with that, because in our numbers the B.D.F., we only have thirteen guys with that class of blood, and out of the thirteen we have only managed to get about four units thus far. We have a civilian that has donated, so we have a fifth unit. We are appealing for about three more units for that soldier before he can take surgery. His surgery is not as urgent, but it is a broken femur and he needs the surgery. He would require those eight pints of blood.”
