Britain’s Youngest Prime Minister in Centuries to Take Office on Tuesday
Conservative and Unionist Party Leader Rishi Sunak, a former chancellor of Exchequer, will become Britain’s next prime minister on Tuesday. He is set to become Britain’s youngest head of government in over two centuries and its first leader of color. Sunak is the son of Indian immigrants. He won the contest to former Prime Minister Liz Truss who resigned from the post on Thursday of last week, after her proposed economic agenda created division within the party. Truss took office on September sixth of this year after her predecessor, Boris Johnson, resigned. The party has been plagued by instability, with four leadership resignations since 2015. Sunak has promised to bring stability and unity to both his party and the country. His predecessor spent forty-four days in office before demitting.
