Viola Jeffrey is Miss Belize

Story Picture
It was a night of charm, grace and wit Saturday at the Fiesta Inn as seven young ladies vied for the title of Miss Belize. When the final two hours of the week long competition were over, the judges decided which of the bevy of the Belizean beauties should wear the sash and crown. Third Place went to Belmopan’s Zoe Roberson, while first runner-up is Dawn Sampson. The title of Miss Belize 1998-99 went to Viola Jeffrey. According to the new queen, she entered the contest with one thing in mind.

Viola Jeffrey, Miss Belize, 1998-1999

“I think the first reason I really did enter the Miss Belize Pageant was for the experience of it. Just going up for it whether you win or lose is a good experience that you can gain. The other reason was I wanted a chance in which I could go and represent Belize and this is my chance to do it.

The competition was so hard. I tried not to bring myself to say I was definitely going to win because if I lost I would not have prepared myself for that either so I prepared myself for both sides.

What I’m expected to do as the new Miss Belize is to represent my country in the Miss Universe Pageant and whatever pageant that comes up. Also to do different events; go out to different areas of charity and offer my services to Belizeans.”

The new Miss Belize won a trip to Brazil, Argentina or Mexico courtesy of the Fiesta, a U.C.B. scholarship, a diamond ring, one night’s stay at Journey’s End and Blancaneaux Lodge, and a luggage set from Samsonite, while the runner-up will be getting a trip to any of TACA’s destinations.
