Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez Scheduled to Make Official Visit to Belize
Today the government announced that Belize will be hosting the Cuban President for an official visit. His Excellency Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, the First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party and President of the Republic of Cuba, will arrive in Belize on Sunday, February twelfth. President Diaz Canel was elected in 2018 and is the first person to hold the Cuban presidency; and the leader of the nation’s Communist Party, a post that he was appointed to in 2021 following the resignation of Raul Castro, ending the era of formal leadership by the Castros, which began with Cuba’s 1959 revolution. According to the government’s release, the President’s agenda will include a special sitting of the National Assembly, a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister John Briceño, and the signing two agreements.
