Special Olympics Belize Braving the COVID Pandemic
With over three hundred Special Olympic athletes across the country, Chairperson Doctor Maxine McKay spoke of how they were able to stay engaged during the height of the COVID pandemic and lockdown.
Dr. Maxine McKay, Chairperson, Special Olympics Belize
“Special Olympics Belize we never fell dead. We still communicated with Special Olympics International. So even though we were not active in terms of during the pandemic, pre pandemic and post pandemic – particularly post pandemic and during – we still kept abreast. We kept our WhatsApp groups open, we kept informing the parents of things that were coming up for Special Olympics, we kept registering our athletes. We also kept promoting wellness workshops on the platforms that we have. We invited them to attend seminars that were done via Special Olympics International and Caribbean so that they could have been well versed in what was taking place. So even though we were not active physically we were on the platforms, informing them of things that were taking place.”
