Campbellsville University Honors Mayor Sharon Palacio
Earlier today, Campbellsville University, a private Christian institution in Kentucky, recognized Mayor Sharon Palacio with a Leadership and Service Award. Mayor Palacio has been partnering with the university for the past decade in various initiatives that resulted in Belizean students attending the university. Through Mayor Palacio, students from Campbellsville have also had the opportunity to learn in Belize. A brief ceremony was held in Belmopan to honor the mayor.
Dr. Jason Meriwether, Vice President, Campbellsville University
“Mayor Palacio has lived a life that is pleasing to God and the way she leads. I often tell her you are the Mayor, you don’t have to do all of this but you do. In the United States politicians don’t act this way. I am not even sure if they all do in Belize, but I know the mayor does and I say this to her all the time and she always says my brother I am just doing my part. The is the Campbellsville University Leadership and Service Award and this is the firs time it has come out of this box and here it is. So Mayor Palacio would you please join me.”
Sharon Palacio, Mayor, City of Belmopan
“I must say that I feel so honored and I thank God for this is the day that God has made. Personally I had no idea that my friendship with Campbellsville would have resulted in today. When I met Campbellsville the reason was my mother had just passed away and in my mind I had no reason to live. I wanted to die that is the truth and these two women shared with me that I should never think about wanting to die that the university needs me. I told them I needed a break a retreat. Before I counted one, two, three I was in Campbellsville. I spent a lot of time at that chapel and around the university there are captivating signs that resonates with one’s feeling. I remember reading something that a person is born to achieve great things providing that person has the strength to conquer him or herself. Everything I read did me justice and I felt more and more the reason to live. Following that Campbellsville became a household name in Belize and almost everything they wanted I ensured that I supported them.”
