Will Belize Need New COVID Vaccine?

As the new COVID variant spreads across the U.S., concerns have been raised at home as to whether Belizeans would need to receive a new vaccine that has been created. The Eris variant of the Omicron form of COVID has been causing hospitalizations to increase in North America. Now because Belize is just a flight away from most of these destinations, the question is whether we will need to boost up again. Today, the media got a chance to ask the Deputy Director of Public Health & Wellness, Doctor Fidel Cuellar, and he said it depends on us as a country.

“If Belize practices good social – their social responsibility, hand-washing, if you’re sick, you wear your mask, or you stay home, etc., hopefully, we don’t have to get to that. But if we do see that there’s an uptick in this particular variant, measures would have to then be taken to protect public health and public safety. Hopefully we don’t get to that point.”
