Mayor Wagner Also Attends FCCA Meetings

As we mentioned earlier, Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner was also part of the delegation that met with the F.C.C.A.  But what was his role and purpose for attending the sessions?  According to C.E.O. Solano, cruise tourism arrivals come ashore in Belize City.

“Right now the lines do come into port in Belize City and Belize City is an important part of the entire industry.  If you have people coming off at the Fort Street Tourism Village, they walk around the city, the cleanliness of the city is very important, the Belize City tours, you know, what’s happening with the buses and the safety and security.  And all of these matters are currently very much relevant to the city.  So his involvement was important.  Our minister is very keen on ensuring that we bring together all the partners and have everybody around the table when these discussions occur.  So that was really the main purpose of it, bring everybody together.  The ministers were there, the mayor was there, we had the executive team of the Belize Tourism Board and the Minister of Tourism and all of the executives of the cruise lines.  So bringing them all together and having the discussion, the frank discussion around the table so that everyone could understand [that] what was happening was important.”
