MOESCT Gives Pallotti Gold Medalists A Warm Welcome Home
We also heard from Namrita Balani, the Director of Science and Technology at the Ministry of Education, who was one of the main organizers behind the event for Belize. She told us about the process the high school went through to represent Belize in Panama. Here is what she had to say.
Namarita Balani, Director of Science and Technology, MoESCT
“In March we were reached out to by Christian Martinez who was contracted by Samsung do this. Our chief education officer was the one who received this email about how they have this Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Challenge and he wanted to come to Belize to meet with us next week. We were like this is random but sure, come and we will be here. He flew in, we talked with him for an hour but there was just two weeks deadline for the schools to apply. We told him we had girls in ICT event that same week. We invited him; we created the side session with the schools that were invited there. That is how he spoke with the teachers, he explained the competition and they had two weeks. And, Pallotti was one of the schools that applied. We are moving towards STEAM education, we are focusing on that and I am so glad it is an all girls team. I am a little bias, right I am super excited they are girls in STEAM. In Belize we noticed that there are less girls in tech careers so it is just so nice to encourage them.”
