More questions arise at K.H.M.H. Commission of Inquiry
The Commission of Inquiry into alleged irregularities during the period January 2007 to June 2009 at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital resumed this morning. Two persons were called to give testimony. The first was Human Resources Director, Laurel Grant. Grant has been employed at the K.H.M.H. since July of 1997 and has acted as C.E.O. for the hospital on various occasions. She did so between March and August of 2008 after Dr. Alvaro Rosado left and up to the time Dr. Gary Longsworth took over the post. Again today there were several questions raised over certain procedural measures in purchases. Grant answered questions on an allotment of a million dollars given to the hospital by the government of Venezuela. The money was earmarked for acquisition of equipment but was used for other purposes. Grant gave her testimony accompanied by her legal advisor, Darrel Bradley.

“Perrera, from this paragraph, I deduce he’s saying don’t ask me and he pointed in the direction of Ghazy, Ms. Wade and yourself. He reported that the monies were not expended as how they should have been. You have told us what was the purpose of the monies and indeed that’s what the auditors found out. We go back to paragraph three-eighty. It says one million Belize dollars was allotted to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and that amount was to be used for rehabilitation of facilities and equipment. But he discovered that some of that money was used or expended for medical supplies, which was outside the purpose of the grant from Venezuela. Do you know about that?”
