Current Director of Finance gets last word

The last person to testify was Carlos Perrera, one of the persons singled out by the Belize Medical and Dental Union when the scandal first broke. He told News Five after the inquiry that the hospital has to tighten the loopholes in the system.

“The K.H.M.H. management and Board had already started implementing new posts, new positions, new internal controls after getting the recommendations from our internal auditors and so forth. As well, like I mentioned earlier today, in regards to foreign purchases as well, we have where we track all the actual documents coming out to be imported. Our purchasing officer looks at the different processes. There’s much more red tape. We prefer that it takes longer for a process to be done in regards to finance than for us to have any of those instances that have occurred prior to the commission.”

The Commission will now make its recommendations to the Prime Minister.
