SOL Belize contributes to Red Cross’ Haiti relief efforts
Since tragedy struck the poverty-stricken island, millions of dollars have been pouring into Haiti for relief efforts. The International Red Cross is one of the leading agencies working around the clock to render aid to the victims of the quake. This afternoon, the Belize Red Cross received a ten thousand dollar cheque from Simpson Oil Limited (SOL) Belize as part of a twenty-thousand dollar donation. General Manager of SOL Belize, Joe Habet, told the media how the company’s initiative came about.

“February fourth is our fifth anniversary of doing business in Belize. And part of that initiative—we were already starting planning to have some promotional activities around that date. One of the initiatives we were working on at that time was, on instructions from our head office, that every country to make a contribution to their local charity based on amount from sales—like ten cents, five cents, ten cents per gallon sales on that date. We were going to do this on February fourth.
With the incident in Haiti we decided that we wanted to do that for an entire week and move it up to this week basically. So what we were going to do on February fourth, we decided to do starting yesterday. So as of yesterday, in conjunction with our dealers—that’s why Mr. Hulse is here representing because they are as much a part of this contribution as we are—fifteen cents for every gallon sold at the service stations across Belize will be contributed to this cause, the Haiti relief fund. Our estimate is that that number will be, based on our average sales at the moment, approximately twenty-thousand dollars based on our average sales so far.”
