Shooting victim absent from trial; accused brothers freed

Two well-known brothers who have been in the news in a number of shooting incidents were today acquitted of the charge of use of deadly means of harm with the intent to cause dangerous harm to Roni Castellanos. On March sixteen, 2008, Castellanos was on Rivero Street when he was allegedly shot by the two brothers, Sigmund and Trevor Trapp. Castellanos sustained a single gunshot injury to the left ankle but survived. This morning before Justice Michelle Arana in the Supreme Court, a jury of nine persons were directed to acquit the two brothers since the victim did not show up to testify. Castellanos’ testimony was critical for the prosecution to get a conviction and when he did not turn up, the case fell apart.  The trial began on Wednesday, and the Prosecutor Trienia Young called five witnesses to the stand.
