Parents attack teacher at St. Martin De Porres School

Violence in schools, that the new standard. Shortly after one this afternoon, hell broke loose at the St Martin de Porres Primary School in Belize City.   News Five understands that the parents of a student became so irate with a teacher who disciplined their child, that they went to the school and attacked him. In the melee, several standard three students, the vice principal and the teacher were injured. The children were taken to the Mahogany Street Police Precinct to report the unfortunate incident. The injured teacher shied away from the camera, but parents were vocal with their concerns. Some say they are uncertain that their children are safe at the institution.

Irene Meighan, Parent

“I get wah call dat my son get knock out and he’s at the police station on Mahogany Street. He goes to St. Martins School and some parents went there and knocked out some kids and beat up teachers but the teachers dehn don’t want stand up fi themselves, dehn run cause dis thing happen on di school grounds.”

Duane Moody

“Around what time did this happen and why would the parent come in and…?”

Irene Meighan

“Apparently to the report, this happened one o’clock but I just get the call and so I come and see what happen to my son. He is in there giving his statement.”

Duane Moody

“What kind of injuries did your son sustain?”

Irene Meighan

“He got knocked on his feet and head. Di vice-principal and wah teacher got hurt.”

Therese Hauze, Parent

“My son get knock cross his stomach wid wah chair and dehn slap ah up, dehn slap ah.”

Duane Moody

“But why would someone want to do this to your son?”

Therese Hauze

“Oh my darling I don’t know, I don’t know.”

Duane Moody

“What are you going to do about this?”

Therese Hauze

“Press charges.”

Principal, Roselda Sinclaire, told News Five that she was out all day running errands for the school and is unaware of the event. Sinclaire says she will have to investigate the matter.

Wonder why parent attack teacher?? Parent have to understand that is not the way to solve conflict, this is a crime done to teachers, remember they are overwork and all cause of our children, sometimes we parents cant handle our kids imagine teachers with over twenty of them. This parent should be charge for that, unless the teacher sexually abuse the child well that is another matter.

My daughter was there and her Std 4 teacher punched her in the back November 2009 …it was swollen i had to take her to the doctor it was classified as harm…i went to the school spoke to the principal and asked nicely if my daughter can be moved from said teacher class …. guess what it never happened..so i had to get a new school in January, as she became a target by the teacher. I could have taken it to education but I didn’t. I too am a teacher.

No wonder you have so many problems in school the kids parents don’t even speak standard english!

  5. maddy says:

The parents that went to school and attacked the teachers are just plain ignorant, makes you wonder what kind of kids they are raising.

I could unduerstand if the teachers hit, or sexually abused my child, that would be a reason to fight.
