Shian White, the mother who was found guilty of beating her two year old to death, was brought before Justice Adolph Lucas. But she is back in prison tonight and still does not know how much longer she will be there because sentencing was deferred to next week Friday. Twenty-three year old White admitted to beating her daughter, Delcy White, with a piece wood, causing fatal injuries and was convicted of Manslaughter on January twenty-eighth. That conviction carries a mandatory sentence of sixteen to twenty-five years and may extend to life imprisonment. But none of the cases cited during the trial were similar enough to Shian’s case to assist Justice Lucas to determine her sentence. Both the defense attorney Phillip Palacio and the representative of the DPP’s office requested that the judge do further research before making a decision. Nevertheless, mitigation pleas were heard from two character witnesses, Shian’s mother Charmaine White and her aunt Joyce McNab.

Both relatives described Shian as a quiet person, who was not abusive. They were joined by her attorney Phillip Palacio to ask the court for leniency. Shian also addressed the court saying that she has two children who she loves and who have been asking for their mother. An emotional Shian, said Delcy was her oldest and that she loved her very much and still does, even in death.

Yes, it is indeed a tragic for an incident to happen like this. I take sympathy towrds Ms. White, but the evidence is there of what was done to poor baby Delcy. Blaming poverty for being abusive is ignorance. I really hope her two remaining kids are given to caregivers that will not only take care of these kids, but also love these kids to their best. After the trial, a shower of rain passed over for a few minutes and I think it was baby Delcy’s way of saying thanks. May baby Delsey soul rest in peace knowing that her mother can not administer the same hard treatment to her brother and sister.

I hope everyone judging Shian has taken into account the considerable psychological trauma she has suffered, not only has she been wrongly accused of this horrific crime, but has also lost a daughter which none of you seem to understand. She has not had the proper defence to give an accurate case, and everyone has just pointed the finger. You should all be ashamed. I live in the UK now and in this country we believe in fair trial and innocense until proven guilty. This is merely a character reference from someone close to shian (23 years) who has seen her as a good mother even during times of despair and hardship. She is an extremely well mannered and caring woman, on many visits back home to belize shian has always helped with my children so I can enjoy my holiday and has cooked for them and cared for them if needed. I trust her with not only my life but my childrens too. She is always working hard to provide for her family, from a young age. Even thought we all know how hard it can be. I hope this information has made people understand the type of woman shian is, and the fact people believe this mother could do this to her own child is a laughable concept, why are her other children crying out for their mother? It in unjust! Delcy white did not die in her arms of her mother but at hospital 3 days later. So that is a defamation on her character. I believe the case needs to be looked at in more depth so the true facts can be found. No one should be pointing the finger at shian. Where are the people responsible for childrens safety, they always seem to make their opinions when it is too late. Shian was allowed to give birth and stay with another daughter for almost 7 months, so I think it is safe to say she does have mothering instincts and has been wrongly accused thus far. Too many times the wrongly accused get victimised while the guilty are left to roam the streets continuing to commit crimes.
