Grace Primary fundraises to assist 7 year old shooting victim

Earlier in the newscast we reported that two men have been charged with murder and a slew of other charges in connection with Monday evening’s shooting at the corner of Neal Pen Road and Central American Boulevard which claimed the life of Darrel Williams Junior. Seven year old Janay Moguel of Grace Primary School was left paralyzed when she was caught by a stray bullet. While it’s good news that justice is on the way, Janay’s family has mounting medical bills that they face each day.

“We sent home a note about a rags day that we were going to have and we got a lot of support from the parents. Some of them gave real generous donations and so far we have tallied up to like sixteen hundred dollars and more monies are still coming in. We have had suggestions of a concert and a barbecue, but we’re leaning more towards the barbecue and a parent has promised us a substantial donation concerning the barbecue.”

“Why did the school decide to take up the task of helping her?”

“Because Janay is a student of our schools and the funds, they really need money; they really need funds to help Janay at the Healthcare hospital so we just decided to do what we can do.”

“And her friends in class, how have they been dealing with knowing what happened to her?”
Grace Tillett
“Well, they have been taking it hard. Some of them cried several times for the day. They have been crying. But I tell them not to worry, she will be okay and I had to comfort some of them and they’re okay now. Today we took three of them to go and see her. She was asking for her three best friends so we took them to see her and she was very happy. Her face just lit up when we stepped into the room and it was okay. Her mom told us that today she squeezed Janay’s hand and asked Janay did mommy squeeze it or pinch it and she was able to tell her mommy that okay you squeezed it. So that’s good news for us we’re being very hopeful right now.”
