Duo tried to pry open wooden doors, now locked up behind iron bars

Two city residents, who allegedly attempted to rob a house in the St. Martin’s area, are behind bars tonight. Shane Edwards and Leon Yorke were taken before the courts today and charged with attempted burglary and damage to the property of Michael Belisle.  They both pleaded not guilty but the court prosecutor Sergeant Egbert Castillo objected to bail on the strength of the evidence against the pair. Chief Magistrate Gabb McKenzie agreed and bail was denied after hearing that the police caught the men near Belisle’s home. According to police reports, at about one a.m. on Tuesday, they were tipped about a burglary in progress. When police arrived, they found that the front doors of Belisle’s house were damaged. The home owner arrived shortly afterwards to learn that thieves had tried to enter his house by prying open the burglar bar and wooden doors. The culprits fled the area and jumped a nearby fence but police caught up with them. Both men were escorted to the Queen Street Police Station.
