Wei Chao Huang charged for the accident that killed his friend

Twenty-nine year old Tin Yu Tan of Mango Creek lost his life in a traffic accident between miles twenty on the Western Highway in August of 2009. Tan was the passenger in a Toyota Tacoma driven by his friend Wei Chao Huang when the accident occurred.  On the way to Belize City, Huang lost control of the vehicle, which flipped on the highway.  Tan was thrown from the pick-up and succumbed to massive head and body injuries. Huang was served five months ago with a Notice of Intended Prosecution but it was not until this past Wednesday that he was summoned to court for Manslaughter by Negligence; Driving a Motor Vehicle Without Due Care and Attention; and Causing Death by Careless Conduct. Court prosecutor Sergeant Hector Rodriguez did not object to bail but asked the court to take into consideration the fact that Huang was not a Belizean. But his attorney, Michel Chebat argued that Huang was not a flight risk and secured bail on the condition that Huang surrender all his travel documents to the Clerk of Court.
